The Society for Mathematical Biology was founded in 1973 to promote the development and dissemination of research and education at the interface between the mathematical and biological sciences. It does so through its meetings, awards, and publications. The Society serves a diverse community of researchers and educators in academia, in industry, and government agencies throughout the world.

To most effectively and efficiently achieve our mission of advancing scientific excellence at the interface between mathematical and life sciences, we help scientists and educators share their knowledge and ideas through two main venues: our annual meeting and our top-quality research publication, Bulletin of Mathematical Biology. In addition, we celebrate our members’ key contributions to the field of mathematical biology through various international awards. We provide travel, conference, and career support to scientists of all career stages. We want everyone to experience the excitement and value of scientific research at the interface of the mathematical and biological sciences. Our members reach out to people all over the world, from schoolchildren to scientists to political leaders, to connect them with mathematics and biology.

The Society is governed by an Elected Board of Directors. Membership to the Society is open to scientists who share the stated purpose of the Society and who have educational, research, or practical experience in mathematical biology or in an allied scientific field. Categories of membership include student, regular, and life members.
